Someone mentioned getting apple tv since I use the macbook pro. Would that work?

It would work, but it would require you converting the optical audio out or the HDMI into an analog signal before putting it into your speaker. In short, it's ridiculously not cost effective. Further, the use of iTunes is key to using the AppleTV for audio, not the use of an OSX product. It will work no better or worse with any product using airplay.

I'm on my phone with a rather poor internet connection right now, so I'll do a bit more research into which product is the best, but something simple like this will work fine. Any product with Bluetooth can connect to it as your audio output, you need a 1/8"-->1/4" adapter (you can actually buy a cable that's got those two ends. Will post links to that later, so no adapter is required). You can get away with a much shorter cable run and the adapter can sit on top of the speaker. sounds like you're using an Eon. Depending on the generation, the top should be flat enough to place the adapter on top of it, out of the way, but then you'll be trading an audio cable run for a power cable run. You know your setup well enough to know whether this is acceptable. It's definitely as feasible as the AppleTV, but at somewhere on the order of 20% the cost with equal effectiveness.
