We are staying at the Crowne Plaza right next to the stadium. is that considered downtown?

No. While several people are advising against staying in the vicinity of the stadium, I am willing to take my chances. That metro train has never encountered this many people staying downtown & I can foresee a cluster F$$$ getting back after the game. The Crowne Plaza is just too convenient.
