Thing is, i grew up learning how to respect my elders, and teachers, and parents and others that warranted respect.
when i didn't i was punished in some way.

Some people grew up differently, and think since they disrespected their teachers and parents and others regularly without punishment, that they can disrespect police officers. They are a drain on society.

Nothing positive comes from defying police officers. Just do what they say and get it over with. There's plenty of dipshit cops out there that want to feel powerful and take it out on you. Just ignore them, say very little and do what they say and go home and feel sorry for them and go on with your happy life.

i agree with the officer.

Can only speak for myself, im 50 have been arrested twice spending time in jail in both instances yrs ago, also pulled over for various reasons a number of times. And in my case, i always gave the police a reason. Everytime. And if id been arrested for everything i should have been, id be in jail long after death. So ,even through im not a big fan of them, ive desevred what ive gotten from the police and more, much more.

While I'd like to agree with you, the situation changes when the officers are power hungry morons not fit for most other professions. That isn't most cops, FWIW, but it does fairly describe some.

Absolutely not true at all.

You always respect people. But we are all adults. Cops are peers. They aren't mommy and daddy.

They should be respected as a means of being polite just like you'd show respect to any stranger you meet.

A lot of people grew up respectful but disrespect police officers because they over-step their authority.

Plus, a lot of them are stupid. For example, in many areas, all you need is a high school degree to be a cop. I absolutely understand people being frustrated with a loud moron with a gun bossing people around.

Having said that, there are a lot of good cops out there. But as for the disrespect... I get it. A lot of them treat good citizens like common criminals.

bullshite.

In my case:
-Held on the side of I-10 for 1.75 hours while being accused of a crime there is no reason to be suspected of.
-Arrested for remaining after forbidden while filming the police. Turns out I wasn't breaking the law to begin with, but let's make him pay a bunch of money and do anger management classes by charging him with resisting arrest as well.

Innocent people have to fight false charges all of the time. The cops don't care, they are basically immune from any consequences of their mistakes. The tax payer will most likely be on the hook for it though.

Where do you draw the line? Random anal cavity searches?

The only reason it is common sense to never disrespect a cop is because it is widely understood and accepted that they can and will use their discretionary powers to ruin your life just because they don't like you.

Well maybe if these "cops" started treating people with a little more respect, they'd get the same in return.
