SEC needs to go to 9 conference games.
The more I think of it, the more I want 10 game conference schedules.
Every school would have equal home and road games. Very small chance a team could skip out on playing the two best teams in the other division( would still happen occasionally) so inequality would be virtually eliminated.
And the fans aren't stuck paying for 3 or 4 rent-a-wins. Sure, most years Vandy/Kentucky/MSU etc aren't exciting. But I'd rather see the bottom teams in the conference over North Texas, New Mexico, and the like.

Why dont we skip the championship and just play everyone in the conference? best record wins? oh yeah, there's no money in it.

We shouldn't be playing them. We should be playing vandy or mizzou. But leave it up to the supposed best conference to not know how to rotate the fricking schedule.

Lsu fan here. Don't care who bama plays. Gainesville is a dump, give us uga or usce as our perma then.
Or play a 9 game schedule and rotate the teams like every other conference. How hard is it to wrap your head around?

To me, it has jack shite to do with Bama. I could care less about their cupcake schedule every year, it just makes us look better when we earn championships on the field.
But I'd rather we be able to play the other East teams more than once every 8-12 years. I'd like to make a road game to every SEC school but that's rather difficult under the current format...you miss once and might not have the chance again for a long time.

Well, that's not what I suggested, is it? But, with 14 teams currently, a 13 game season would be necessary to play a round robin. You arguing that there'd be less money with every team in the conference playing an extra game, instead of just two?
Maybe you can explain how there's more money in playing an 8 game conference schedule than 10 games.

The reality is that if Tenn. was the perennial power that it was prior to 2008, you would not hear one complaint about the Bama/Tenn. game
Due largely to the fact that Bama would have gotten it discontinued.

LSU-UK had more of a history than UF-LSU at the time of discontinuing 2 perms. Never made sense to me that the longer series was discontinued for a forced "rival".
typical of the SEC, LSU has never had much influence in those offices

The only relevant time period for your evaluation is from 2002 forward since that was the year the conference changed the format that was used from 1990 because it wasn't fair to have two permanent opponents. You might be "tired" of LSU not liking getting shafted by the schedule, but LSU is just reiterating the same argument that the conference found persuasive in 2000 when they changed the format last time.

Supply and demand. When not in conference play, the conference gets 14 different games to collect money from television rights on. When in conference play, that number is reduced to 7. More conference games reduces the total amount of SEC games since you don't double count when two conference opponents play each other. Make sense?

Especially when one considers that when the switch was made, going back to 1990, LSU beat the Gators once. Quite a competitive series we had there.

I more hate the fact that Bama has had such a easy/lucky road since Saban has got here outside of his recruiting and coaching.
What I mean by that is that he has yet had to remove a key cog in his team prior to the season.
All the OOC opponents they had scheduled prior to him being there or during his time there, have been crappy the season they finally play. I mean I have only saw one decent one be at least as good as they were supposed to be. That was VT in 2009 who beat finished 10-3 and lost to them 24-34.
No holding calls all year? Yeah fricking right.
Tennessee being crappy the same time Bama has it's "Phoenix" rebirth to Champion status.
They did not play Tebow one time in the regular season from 07-09.
We've played UGA 3 times, USCe 3 times, and UF every year. Bama has played UGA twice, UF twice, USCe twice. I mean it's really not their fault those teams, except for UGA, were terrible each time they played them.
The thing I hate is that we stopped playing a crappy OOC team at the end of the year, to replace with a bye. Now for two years straight, we take our first bye deep into the fricking season, and our players will be tired the frick out. We need an earlier season bye.

It's funny (not really) how the SEC HQ uses "tradition" as the excuse to do what they want to do then ignores tradition for everybody else.

Permanent and rotating rivals have been a part of the SEC schedule since at least the 70s.
Until 1987, LSU played Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Ole Miss and State every year, rotating Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Vandy in an 8 year, home-and-home basis for a 6 game league schedule. When the Earthquake game happened, LSU and Auburn were the top teams in the league the previous 5 years and had not played each other. That's why is was so important and hyped.
In 1988, the league added a game, so that we would play another of those rotating teams each year. In 88 and 89, we played both Tennessee and Auburn. In 90 & 91, we played both Vandy and UGA.
Even back in those days, people cried about the schedule. Auburn fans noted that their permanent teams included Florida, Tennessee and Georgia, while Bama got State and Vandy every year. Ending the Auburn/Florida and Auburn/Tennessee game were a big deal, akin to us ending the GTHOM game.
In a league as big as the SEC, you will always have schedule imbalance. The only complaint that LSU has is that in the bridge years, Bama got Mizzou and Kentucky while we got South Carolina and Tennessee. Moving Kentucky back on LSU's schedule and Florida onto Bama's is just about the only thing the SEC can do to make up for those two years (especially considering that both LSU and aTm played Florida in 2012, keeping them from creating a 3-way tie with Bama.)
Want a balanced schedule? Cut 5 teams from the conference, and play a 8 game schedule with 4 home and 4 away games against every team in the league. I am not betting that the SEC will do this any time soon.
Bottom Line? Win the games you have and quit whining about the rest.

Imbalance isn't the issue. It is institutional imbalance. Saying "there will always be imbalance" while not adopting solutions that would lessen the problem is not seeing the forest for the trees.
The SEC right now uses the worst scheduling format of all available in terms of competitive balance and travel through the conference. Just because we might not fully solve the balance issue (year to year fluctuations happen in a league) doesn't mean we should doom the system to the worst solution.

I like the way they waited until it was a year where the East visits the West on the rotating opponents so that Bama got Florida at home.
