Most accidents are new rider or new bike accidents. Once you have been riding for several years and put in the saddle time, its relatively safe. It improved my driving skills as well.

Its not for everyone, but its very therapeutic.

3 of 4 in the OP were experienced riders

Its likely not your driving skills - on a bike or a car - that would be the problem - but the lack of driving skills of the drivers around you. You cannot control that. Be safe and good luck.

It's not safe even with experience. Freshman year of high school I saw a girl get hit when the car in front of me pulled out in front of her, and had her die while I was checking her pulse after cutting her helmet strap (to stop choking not take the helmet off) and trying to talk her back from shock. She wasn't speeding or doing anything wrong, just commuting to work at 6:30 in the morning. A long time friend of mine died the same way almost a year ago. I don't give a damn how good of a rider you are, some things just can't be avoided.

Experience doesn't mean shite in motorcycle safety. Someone runs a red light doing 30 in a when you're in a car, big arse dent in your car. Same thing and you're on a bike, you'll spend some time in the hospital (I've been there). And that's on small streets. The week I got out the hospital, I know of two people killed. Other people's small mistakes are deadly no matter what your experience level is. No one I love will ever ride a motorcycle if I can control it.
