I just got to Light 259 doing this. I always play on my own, mostly do missions and patrols, hardly ever do strikes and never do Crucible. I'd probably level up much faster if I joined a team for some raids and strikes.

I plan on at least getting the Ruin Wings and Hawkmoon. I already had Light beyond nemesis in year 1 so I would just buy. I'm not sure on the sealed grips
