Yeah as much as I'd prefer a single family home I've thought about the condo option.
Only way I get a house is if my girlfriend follows me there since she has dogs.

It sounds like you are familiar with the area, so maybe you and your GF should ride around and look at some places. See if it fits in what you want to do and go from there.
