Will a catfish trap work in non-moving water in a large pond or lake?

Or do they only work in moving water of a bayou, river, etc?

Will they be effective this time of year? Will soap work as bait if the trap soaks for a week upon first setting it out .

TIA for any feedback and/or tips......

Was going to post similar questions today. We are at Old River and have seen dozens of traps most of which had catfish in them. I'm looking for tips as well.

Trap size? Color? Material? Bait necessary? Can the catfish back out of the trap? How long between checking? Is it ok to leave them out all week unchecked? Is this a seasonal thing or will they swim in anytime?

TIA
