Pretty sure Elvis's plumber wasn't really a fan
I'm sure he didn't mind considering Elvis never dirtied the toilet.

No death can trump Elvis though. He was the the king of everything, including celebrity death.
I think it was a true turning point for coverage of celeb death, and celebrity in general. Most of the media did not realize how significant he was to so many people. Cronkite infamously did not even lead off the CBS Evening News with the story. CBS would remember 3 years later, and led with the death of John Lennon.

Completely agree, but when it happened it seemed like such big news. I was in college at the time so around 1 am the bars were always playing Whitney as a tribute lol. All the robin Williams hype will die down too. People just like to seem sad and shite on social media. All these people tweeting this stuff really don't give a shite.
The fact that Williams committed suicide is making this bigger, though. If he had had a heart attack, it would be sad, but not like this. His suicide will cement his death as one of the all-time tragic Hollywood stories. This will not be quickly forgotten.
Who was the last MAJOR Hollywood star to KILL themselves? I honestly do not remember (drug overdoses not included, because those are likely accidents).

Also when talking about just comedians, would this be the biggest since maybe Farley?
Chris Farley was a big deal (I still miss him) and he was a great comedian. But, his influence was much more narrow and short-lived. With Williams, you are talking about 35 years of work and his dramatic performances too.
The equivalent would be if Billy Crystal or Jim Carrey died like this, I think, from an historic perspective. Robin Williams has not been that big since 2000 or so, but in the 80's and 90's, he was HUGE.

Also one thing about Michael Jackson's death is that he was already pretty much dead.
His career was over and he was out of the spotlight for a while.
That's why I didn't get the reaction from so many people.
Robin Williams was still very active. One reason why it's sad.

Same here. I was very young but I remember all the females in my family crying like someone they knew had just died. It was really huge. Lennon was huge but it didn't affect people on a personal level like Elvis did.

Especially asphyxiation by hanging. Can't think of a correct term but almost want to say like "dramatic" way of going out. If you take overdosing out, biggest names I can think of are Kurt contain and maybe chris Benoit. But he is a whole other story.

Bob was already a walking corpse when he died.

I think he has 4 movies either coming out or he was shooting/getting ready to shoot. I think a few will still be released.
He was talking about doing Ms. Doubtfire 2. That would have been a neat nostalgia movie.
