Hat,
We fished this weekend out of Venice, first time for me and two sons. Fished in East Bay, never left state water, 37 to 44 feet. Kept 30 mangrove, 6 red snapper, 6 redfish (1 bull). Fish not kept, one black tip(still swimming with gaff), one bull shark, and two gag grouper( each about 15 in). We were chumming and fishing near the surface, just seems shallow for some species.

With the river getting low and winds been blowing out the south, you have more saltwater inside.
OP, with the full moon, that is one reason on the slow tuna bite. Still a nice trip. And yes, sweet ride to fish out of. Was on my very short buying list when I was still offshore fishing.
For those that want to fish offshore. Pay the extra for a overnight trip. You get way more for what you pay for.
Anybody know if the big trout showed up in the jump yet?

some of the biggest snapper I've seen were at platforms in under 80ft of water. People always pass them up.
If I ever rod-n-reel fish snapper I love to chum em up to the surface and fight on light tackle
