They do look realistic, but they just look like bees on a page. If some background is added, (a large scaping calming meadow with wildflowers for example) it would make the bees look even more realistic. Perhaps a few rough drafts on separate paper to experiement with different types of backgrounds and technique so that you dont mess this print up because the bees are very good.

I understand what your saying and I'm a background person, but he wanted it simple so they can bring it somewhere and get just the bees engraved on the tombstone. If I were doing it as just a drawing I would have put much more detail.
