Spring through Oak was the best panic since 97.

What does he think of the current state of WSP?

usually don't talk to him about it, but he still goes to shows and what not, so I guess he approves.
He's not a musician at all, but he does look just like his dad.

It's pretty to cool to have your song be somthing so sacred and to hopefully never be played again.

Mikey's letter to the fanbase posted on WidespreadPanic.com 7/16/2002:
Dear Widespread Panic community, and dear friends, Mikey here, with some thoughts and facts for you.
As some of you know, I have contracted a terminal form of cancer. I want to assure all of you that all that can be done has been done, and I want to thank all of you who have contributed information, medicine, and so on.
As for me, I am at my home in Athens, GA, surrounded by my family, and being well taken care of.
In the words of Lou Gehrig "Though some of you may have thought I have caught a bad break, I feel like the luckiest man in the world."
Between my best friends, J.B., Todd, Sunny, Dave and JoJo, and you, our friends, and best support group in the world, I feel strong and well taken care of.
I have hopes of playing again soon, although I can't say for sure when or where, and I hope to see you all there.
With much thanks and love,
Mikey

Today is always very hard for me. I miss him and think about him at least once a day. Ill never forget driving down the interstate and getting the call that broke my heart. We all knew it was coming, but that didn't make one bit easier. I'm so grateful for all the smiles he put on my face all those years. I was lucky enough to meet and get to know him somewhat in the early days, and as good of a musician as he was he was even better person. I would give up so much just to have one more beer or hear him play one more song.
RIP Mikey. Gone but never forgotten

Last time I saw him, and fitting end to my my WSP days. Fighting back tears now just watching it.

Widespread Panic died 12 years ago with Houser.
What they do now can be fun and sometimes musically enjoyable, but it's not Widespread Panic. It's something else.
Houser was the creative heartbeat. The rest were riding his coattails. They still do on the catalogue of music he left them. they haven't put two decent songs on an album since his untimely death.
Houser is one of only a few guitar players who I can hear hit two notes and I know exactly who I'm listening to. It was so unique, you either love it or hate it.
RIP Mikey.
