What are your opinions of Mathis going back to the MLS after a year and a half in Hannover?

I never knew anything about his club career, and I never really paid attention to clubs until a few years ago, but I don't believe Mathis was ever the face of our program like Donovan was. As far as Dempsey and Bradley go, I was disappointed in both, yet happy for the MLS. However, I've always felt that Dempsey was overrated and Seattle was probably one of his best options. I would have preferred Dempsey stay in Europe until after the WC.

After the 2002 World Cup, "the future" was 1. Donovan 2A. Beasley 2B. Mathis.

It just sounds like you are holding LD to an unfair standard because he didn't follow a specific career model. Looking at what he has done for this modern era of USA soccer, how much more could he have done playing for Everton in 2009 to now?
