what is a DP and what makes a DP different than any other player? My guess is just that its a player a team signs rather than drafts?? No clue though. Is there a certain amount of DP's a team can have?

You get 3 slots and their salary doesn't count against the cap

It does count against the cap, just not the whole thing. I think somewhere in the ballpark of $400k per player count against the cap.

When you want to compete with the top leagues in the world for the best players in their prime it is esp when those teams load contract with tax free add ons.
If the MLS never gets to that level its ok. Im ok with it being like the Brazilian league making our best product our exports who are very technical and have great pace. While starting to get players away from from the top 2nd divisions in the world, England,Spain, Germany and getting them to the MLS.

Thats a pipe dream in my opinion.
I would hate to see the MLS turn into a league where there are only a handful of teams that have a legit shot at winning the league. One of the things that makes the MLS unique is that the cap and structure allow for every team to build to compete within reason. Take that away and its just another middling league that is top heavy.

Domestic and international players who receive offers and sign with clubs outside of the US for better money.

So…every major top-division player in the world?
You could have no salary cap and a league full of billionaire owners, and the powerhouse leagues are still going to attract the best players. Just look at the Russian league. Money doesn't necessarily make you a better destination.

You're playing dumb. The US market is the largest and most lucrative in the world. Russia is hardly a destination. New York, LA, etc. are. If the money is there, the players will come.

Not really. Outside of money, what would really attract the players in their prime? CONCACAF Champions League? They can make similar money in Europe while playing better competition.

So the biggest media markets and money will convince players to join MLS, a league not even 20 years old yet…over the biggest leagues in the world that can offer a chance at the biggest club trophy in the world.
If that's the case, I am playing dumb.
