San Diego - Sunday Night Dinner - Only 1 - Will Have To Cab To It : Suggestion?

I am flying into San Diego sunday afternoon for a quick meeting monday morning. My hotel accomodations are in a hotel by the airport....but I arrive around 430pm.
I am willing to take a cab to a good spot for dinner. What would you suggest?
I have been downtown by the convention center for a weeklong meeting and ate at several places down there. Nothing that would make me take that trip.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Boss, you were likely in college when I was there last. Can't help you, other than to suggest red meat...they don't season their seafood to our taste. And I had some awesome Messican food.

Ole Geauxt's wife is out there on the reg...she's fond of a man that lives there. Maybe she'll share a few favorite spots for him to post.

For a good meal in a beautiful setting - The Prado in Balboa Park. May need a reservation.

Not for dinner but rather for drinks: There are two British Pubs on India Street near the Airport.
The Princess Pub is in Little Italy, great pint pulled in there.
Have a few there, and cab it up to Middle Town to The Shakespeare Pub and Grille. Usually good conversation to be had at the bar. For fine dining options, there are plenty but you'll most likely find them in the Gaslamp District, a little further towards down town.

La Jolla has some pretty good hole in the wall places, will be an expensive cab ride though.
Gas Lamp district is overrated
Coronado area is okay but pricey
Last time I was there we went to the Italian area which is real close to where you are talking about and we had a nice meal there. Several places are there but the polenta and steak were excellent.

I hit the GasLamp area pretty hard last time I was in town.... Was there for a week to entertain clients so we visited most of the quality joints n the area.
Pubs sound interesting. The upscale dining over the water does too. Thanks. Gonna look into them today.

The weather there is completely un fricking fair. If only they could season seafood, have ducks and deer, and be within three hours of momma's house.
