I'm sorry to burst all of your bubbles... but this logo is ugly as shite:
It is cartoonish, outdated, too busy, etc. Looks bad. The only reason you guys like it is because you are nostalgic.
Imagine the Patriots had the Elvis logo for years and years and years since they started as a franchise. And then the team unveiled the logo above this year. Everybody on this forum would be saying WTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that is the worst logo ever!
And you all know it.

The 'upgrade' here is bad. The detail in the 3rd logo was a pretty good upgrade over the early dolphin.

Though ugly, I like the old Pats. It's unique. Doesn't look like it was designed by the same firm that designs every logo from the past 15 years.
