How often should you replace your A/C filter?

And how much can you save on your bill by replacing?

I change mine every 3 months
Posted on 8/6/14 at 10:21 am to King of New Orleans
about every 90 days
Posted on 8/6/14 at 10:22 am to King of New Orleans
when it gets dirty

What do you mean? The dirtier the filter the harder your ac has to work.

you won't really save anything

I assume you mean in your home? I change mine every 3 months. once a year in clean the coils.
I can not answer how much it saves

I probably do mine 3 times a year

It's taking the shite out of the air which increases the quality of air you are breathing and extends the life of the blower/coil. The affect on your bill is minimal by comparison to those.

I check mine about every month. I live in an old, drafty house and it gets dirty quickly.

when it's dirty and needs to be changed.

Depends on the filter. Cheaper ones are once a month.

I do mine monthly only because we have an indoor dog. I also have the actual unit checked / serviced twice a year. Paid an additional $250 for the 10 year service plan when I purchased the HVAC unit.

With the seasons... every 3 months.
On a side note, I've heard that if you get those really efficient 1900 and above filtrete filters, unless your A/C is very new, you are making the unit work much harder to pull air through because they weren't designed for those type filters (or something like that). Any truth to this?

Depends on filter type, anywhere from 30 - 90 days.

I use the pleated kind and they get dirty pretty quickly. Have to change every eight weeks or so in summer when the a/c runs so much. In winter probably twice that long because of so much less run time of the fan.

As others have said, it's more about health than saving money. My unit is a 50 year old titanic monstrosity. I change the filter every month and have air purifiers all over the house.
Moving soon.
