You bring up a good point, but not the one you intended. We did see what it took to get the ents moving. But we didn't see anything with the eagles. That's partly what makes it a Deus ex Machina. Not really a plot hole but a plot device to move the story along without any explanation. That's why this guy came up with this... To give an explanation. It's just for fun
