I'm 31 so she was a bit before my time. I've never even really heard of her, much less listened to her, until now (perhaps heresy on the Music Board). In fact, the first time I came across her talents was just recently watching youtube vids and she played a ukulele by herself on stage and sang a few of her songs. I was immediately mesmerized by her. That voice... wow. Just her voice, a ukulele and a microphone left me drooling.
After listening through the album, Blue, a few times and Clouds once, she is quickly becoming one of my personal all-timers, not just female but artist period. She has a lot of material left to explore. I'm sure, like most great artists with the volume of material she had, she has some WTF stuff as well as some genius. I'm just curious what you 70's kids thought of her at the time and where you think she stands among her peers?
Reading through her wiki page it's apparent that she was very influential to a lot of musicians, both her unique style on guitar, songwriting and singing abilities.

Blue is a fantastic album.
I haven't heard any of her recent work.

Appreciate the responses. I guess by the lack of responses I got my answer. She's obviously underrated here.
It's interesting. After browsing some of her stuff I would honestly put her up there with the Neil Young's and Bob Dylan's - it transcends gender. I think she's in an elite class. Admittedly I haven't heard any of her later stuff. And she probably isn't everbody's cup of tea. She apparently had like 50 different tunings for her songs on guitar... played open tunings before it was cool. A Top 100 artist of all time and the highest rated female guitar player according to Rolling Stone. Also Led Zeppelin's Going to California was reportedly about her as Plant and Page were both infatuated with her.
Thought I would get more responses. I needed affirmation dammit. My masculinity has taken a hit blasting Blue in my Ford F-150 driving home from work.
