Look again, he was in front of the plate then moved in position to get the ball, which was blocking the plate.

He was in perfect position in front of and behind the plate and could have caught the ball where he was. He intentionally moved forward to block the plate (textbook blocking). He waited til he knew the ball would be on target before he made his move to block.

I agree it's a stupid rule that takes away an exciting play at the plate. If anything they should just make everyone slide into home if there is a close play and not allow runners to initiate contact and not let catchers initiate contact.

Incidental contact will happen, but you won't get a Posey situation with those rules.
