I don't think bombs and shelling will not help win this for IDF. At some point, they're going to have to actually fight a ground battle from where the enemy is located.
The difference this time is that Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab nations are fully supporting Israel. Even Iran is strangely quiet because they are also very concerned and don't want Hamas' vision to unroot the power structure in their country. These countries are afraid of what is going on in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and other places due to the growing influence of the islamic elements who want to establish an islamic regional power.
No power, no access to underground tunnels, a strict crackdown by Egypt & Jordan on Palestinians, no water or sewerage systems working, and no communications network all spell a mass exodus by those who remain.

Hamas has been fighting on two fronts but that will most likely not continue as Muslim body counts rise Egypt is going to recieve and huge amount of pressure to let up on Hamas. More than likely Egypt will have no choice but to do this as their economy is bieng propped up by donations from KSA, UAE, etc. These other countries do not wish to see the death toll reach the proportions some on this board are calling for.

They need to allow refuge for innocent civilians. The ones remaining at that point are fair game. I'm not that concerned about other countries being involved as long as it isn't the U.S.. We need to stay out of ME wars.

General Al-Sisi is building a reputation as the most despised leader in the Arab world
Far from it Al-Sisi has actually become the power broker for the middle east. He is in solidarity with UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Iran, and even Lebanon in their support of Israel.
The Arab world doesn't want another quagmire on its hands they currently have enough with Libya, Tunisia, Syria, Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan, and the islamic areas of Africa. The only countries that are publicly supporting Hamas are Turkey and Qatar.

Herein lies the problem no one wants them in their country. The other Arab nations do not like Palestinians because they are concerned about planting future generations of Islamic fundamentalists in their own countries. This is why Egypt cracked down on them because they helped establish the muslim brotherhood's surge after the fall of Mubarak.

You're out of your freakin' mind. Perhaps Saudi Arabia and UAE appreciate Al-Sisi tyranny, but the rest on those governments have no use for him, especially Iran and Lebanon, not to mention Turkey and Qatar.

We will see if this support of Israel holds as the casulties continue to pile up. Right now the casulty ratio is about 300-1 if this holds out these countries will have no choice but to drop support of Israel due to internal pressure from their own citizens. We will see how it plays out.

quote:I suppose we can say the same about Hamas. Why don't they come out and face the Israelis in the open? Haven't got the stomach for it, despite the fact it would spare them all the international criticism and worldwide hatred.
They'll never do that because they don't have the stomach for it, despite the fact that it would spare them all the international criticism and worldwide hatred.
Hamas has chosen the battlefield. They seek battle among their civilian population because they know that separating themselves from the civilians is suicide. Hamas fighters are beneath contempt. It is laughable that they proclaim their bravery when they hide their faces from the world and slink behind their women and children when faced with prepared foes.

I say the same thing evrrytime I hear what some slaves went through 150 years ago, when all races have been enslaved.
Seems you have a double standard trackfan.
I never fall for the BS guilt trip that is put forward every day to gain shyt.
Only 5 percent of the people owned slaves, most whites were dirt poor. Blacks owmed slaved also. And many, many millions of people have immigrated here AFTER 1865.
But you keep pulling for those race quotas. Discrimating agains innocent people.
Exactly the opposite of M.L. Kings dteam.

Hamas hiding weapons in schools, un places, hospitals. They use human shields. Very sad for all sides. US caught in cross fire.

U.S. forces have encountered this type of opposition in almost every war in U.S. history. Vietnam had the Viet Cong. The Stern and Irgun groups as well as the IDF have used their share of dirty tactics in the past. To some degree, so have we.
Call it terrorism or whatever you wish...it's "guerrilla warfare". It's dirty war...real dirty. And it has probably been around and more often used by disadvantaged sides as a very effective tactic against much stronger forces since war itself. It's just that in this case, the Israeli army is the more visible, stronger, opposing force.

I'm drunk so I'll say it. Why doesn't Israel (who has the right to protect itself) fight fire with fire. Proxy war man! Quiet killz, spy infiltration, etc. seems Israel is falling victim of "fighting the last war" instead of modernizing and fighting Hamas internally instead of kids dying.
Saves on the international backlash. Play the victim

My Grandpa served in WWII. He dropped bombs on German cities where men, women and children were.
We won that war.
We won that war.

I don't see why people have a hard time believing Israel would intentionally do this considering other things they've done, such as attack the USS Liberty. After all, these are the same folks that force 9-year-old Palestinian kids at gun point to be guinea pigs looking for bombs and booby traps.

Majed was among dozens of men, women and children who were sheltering in a basement when the soldiers forced him to open a bag at gunpoint, according to the boy's affidavit, given to Defence for Children International (DCI), which filed a complaint against the Israeli army.
"I thought they would kill me," Majed said. "I became very scared and wet my pants. I could not shout or say anything because I was too afraid ... I opened the bag as he pointed his weapon directly at me. I emptied the bag on the floor. It contained money and papers. I looked at him and he was laughing."
The boy said he was grabbed by the hair and slapped across the face by a soldier when he could not open a second bag. "He then shot at the bag ... I thought he shot at me, so I shouted and put my hands on my head ... Another soldier said: 'Go to your mother.' I ran to my mother and hid in her arms. 'I wet my pants,' I said to her. 'It's fine,' she said."
The child has been traumatised since the incident, according to his family, and has been demanding that the door of their home is locked at all the times.

What country would allow for public schools to be open during a war? Sure, I feel sorry for the little children but come on!
Posted on 7/31/14 at 9:02 am to trackfan
Come on Trackfan you are using the alleged actions of one soldier to indict a country? You are better than that. The Liberty is a good example because that decision was not made by a grunt in the field but this other "news" may or may not be true and you know it.

That's a fair assessment since every army has bad apples in it, but it's the lack of discipline given to these soldiers that's appalling. I remember reading a story about an American army officer who did something similar to an adult male Iraqi who was an insurgent that had been captured, and he was courts martialed, demoted and kicked out of the army. I'm guessing that had he done this to a kid, he would have gone to prison.

If you sincerely believe that all Palestinians in 2014 should be held accountable for the WORDS of some Palestinian guy 70 years ago, can I assume that you also believe that all Israelis should be held responsible for the ACTIONS of the Israeli military 47 years ago, when they attacked the USS Liberty, and still to this day have not fessed up about.
It's not the Grand Mufti's words. It's his actions. He met with Hitler on behalf of the Palestinians to have a Final Solution take place in the ME.
However, if you think something that happened 70 years ago does not have anything to do with today';s conflict then don't whine about the white man stealing the land from the "native Americans" and the white man enslaving the black man.
After all, those things happened over 150 years ago.

Are you suggesting that this single Palestinian had so much sway with Hitler that he persuaded him to exterminate the Jews, and without this meeting, the Holocaust would have never happened, and therefore all Palestinians today, most who were born long after WWII, should be made to pay the price for this single Palestinian's meeting with Hitler?

Wait a minute. Are you saying that Blacks and Native Americans today have just as much right to hold today's Whites responsible for the actions of Whites from the past as Jews today have to hold today's Palestinians responsible for the Grand Mufti's meeting with Hitler? Are you advocate of reparations? Do you really believe that the past is always relevant, whether we're talking about Jews, Blacks or Native Americans?
