Wished that Herington and Becker could have wailed a bit more, but from all the roadies on stage beating on equipment during the first song I'm guessing there may have been some technical problem.
Crowd did look like an AARP convention.
But still... damn was that a fine show. And they played Aja. Life is good.

Saw them at the Beacon two or three years ago. Free ticket from a friend. No way I would have thought to see them otherwise. One of the best shows I've ever seen, and by far the weirdest crowd in which I've ever been. There's 58-year-old New York Jews, and then there's 58-year-old Jews who listen to nothing but Steely Dan. Both are great, but the latter are from another planet. Hard to explain any further.
I agree totally with this...I see them in the high end audio salons. They bring their Steely CDs with them and listen to the $300k audio rigs all afternoon and will never purchase any gear. Usually named Saul.

Going to see them in Columbia Tuesday night. Will be my third time. First time was a "religious" experience. 12,000 people singing along to Deacon Blues...........
Keith Carlock (drummer) is from Clinton, MS

Becker seemed a bit lazy. I don't think he can play like he used to, which is why I think Herington was pulling the weight.

Drummer was incredible.
Also, they talked about one of the background singers having been with them on all tours since 1993. Still had it going too.

Becker was never a real guitarist, he is only there because he co-wrote the songs, in the 70s for live performances he played bass. All of the great guitar parts on their records were created and played by session players like Randall Elliot and Jeff Baxter. They have always relied on hired guns for their tours, and for the last 19 years or so it has been Jon Herrington. That being said, Becker could at least put in the effort to learn the second guitar part for the duets in "reeling in the years", the only time they have every played it like the record was a few years ago when Randall Elliot who originally created and recorded the solo made a guest appearance.

I'm in Birmingham, steely dan is here tonight.
If I wanna go I'd have to drop over 100 bucks
With the chance of not hearing dirty work, there's no way I'm going

Yea, why risk it, you will only miss the opportunity to hear 21 or 22 other equally great songs. Their set list varies, they have done Dirty Work at about half the shows on this tour so far, so your odds are not that bad.

i dunno....on my 'two against nature live' DVD, becker pulls his weight quite nicely IMO.
anyhow, saw 'em in '94 & '00, both great shows. the '00 show they played "dirty work", and one of the female background singers sang lead vocals for it...sounded better than i'd imagined. do they still perform it the same way?

Yes, same singer, Caroline Leonhart, she has been part of the tour band since 1993, her brother plays trumpet in the horn section.
Check her out in this with some of the other present and former Steely Dan singers along with Jon Herrington.

I thought it was a really great show....amazing band. But I was a bit disappointed they didn't play Deacon Blues. How do you not play that song??

Very disappointed. A great band, great musicians, but they played a lot of stuff I hadn't heard and didn't play a lot of the classics - Do It Again, FM, Deacon Blue, Pretzel Logic, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Only A Fool Would Say That.
They have so many incredible songs, and you were upset that they didnt play these songs? Jeez.

I was seated on the right side of the stage, 2nd
level behind Fagan and the backup singers.
after I left the show it occurred to me that I
didn't see a bass player. can any one fill me in
,who it was, where they were positioned, or
their description ? That's all. Great studio
sounding performance.
