FYI on Stone: They were planning to open a site in Huntsville, Alabama. The State and local governments offered lots of incentives (and introduced legislation to change laws)to get them to come, which turned out to be the very reason they didn't come. They saw a lot of quality local brewers in the area and were offended the local brewers weren't getting the same incentives from the state and local governments. (Or so the rumors go)

That's great, except that if the state changed the laws because of Stone, then they'd have to change the laws for everybody (theoretically). So while I appreciate their sentiment (frick you, Alabama. Stop shitting on local business and you know... Being Alabama), I wonder if the effect was actually what they were going for (now they don't have a place in Alabama to tap the southern beer market as readily and they leave the rest of the craft breweries in the wind).

If I remember correctly, it would, only benefit brewers making over a certain number of barrels/year, and none of the Bama breweries were anywhere close to that number, so Stone said "frick off" to the bama lawmakers.

I'm not going to stop buying Stone because they asked me for some money, but I do think it is ridiculous that a company as big as Stone would crowd fund a portion of their new facility.
