Everyone needs some fine arts in their lives.

ETA: my brother in law majored in English and is now a Financial Adviser and CFP at Wells Fargo. I am kind of jealous of that because he knows a lot about literature and still got a good job. He majored in something he liked. I know he isn't the norm, but still kinda neat.

there is nothing wrong in majoring in humanities, but there is no reason to go occupy wall st. when you cant find a job with your humanities skin.

i'm not arguing against this point at all. but i think you do this on your own, not in college. what are you going to be able to learn in college that you cannot do on your own by picking up a literature book?

i know it's a bit the same with sciences, but at the end of a sciences degree, you have a degree that is probably required for employment. with the humanities, your degree is not required for employment.

i'm saying that if you want to get a good job out of school, do the sciences (not finance or business, lol). that's your ticket to financial security. learn the arts on your own time. read a book a week (probably putting in more time doing that than the vast majority of humanities majors did during their college schooling).

just because you major in the humanities and got a degree, even with honors, doesn't mean anything. it's watered down, and anyone with a decent intelligence can fly by in the humanities without any effort.
