I have been following this grass root movement for some time. There is now movements within all 50 states now.
LINK
several have passed... how many will follow through?
IF the senate is won by conservatives in nov, will it stop the movement?

Convention off the states..
To do what?
quote:
Citizens concerned for the future of their country, under a federal government that's increasingly bloated, corrupt, reckless and invasive, have a constitutional option. We can call a Convention of States to return the country to its original vision of a limited federal government that is of, by and for the people.
Sounds kinda vague. I predict a total implosion at the convention.

already do.. and has already passed in several states.
again, sorry for your luck, but one way or the other... the era of an out of control federal government is over.

There doesn't seem to be anything official so far. This convention was called to discuss the subject of limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government rather than already set in stone individual amendments. The pamphlet did provide some examples of what most likey will be the amendments.
quote:
What Sort of Amendments could be passed?
Examples
A balanced budget amendment
Reducing federal spending power (Fixing the General Welfare Clause)
Reducing federal regulatory power (fixing the Commerce Clause)
A prohibition of using international treaties and law to govern the domestic law of the USA
Imposing real checks and balance on the Supreme Court (Such as Term limits)
Placing a limit on federal taxation
Convention of the States Handbook

Though I absolutely agree with all of this...
yea... That ain't gonna happen in our lifetimes.

So they don't have any particular amendments that they definitively want to propose?
quote:
A prohibition of using international treaties and law to govern the domestic law of the USA
That doesn't even make sense. Treaties and international law are not enforcible domestically without Congress specifically passing a law enforcing them. So that's the situation as it stands now, no amendment needed.

Reducing federal spending power (Fixing the General Welfare Clause)
"Fixing it"? Well what's wrong with it? According to the extreme right, it already has absolutely zero power - right?

It would be a cluster F without a severely narrow and focused like a laser beam objective. And even then it would be like herding cats on crack.

No. See. This convention of the states will only have tea party activists therefore improving the US Constitution by making it say what the founding fathers really intended!!!
DUUUHHH!!!
ETA: STRICT CONSTRUCTIONISM!!!!

No, it shouldn't. Independence of the States is the best way to force slacker States to step up and fix their mess. And to stop any Executive or Judicial overreach in the future.
Full speed ahead.

I agree, but I feel those moderate republicans will no longer support this. This is STATE reps not DC, so maybe you are right.
