It's not really a cop out, we're out of touch with our national team. Primarily because the last load of managers since Hoddle would struggle to organise a piss up in a brewery, players are picked based on who they play for rather than how well they've been playing, the FA are a corrupt bunch of clowns who don't care about anyone outside the top few clubs, the players are, for the most part, a bunch of overpaid tossers. I could go on.

We just have more affinity with our local clubs, and you see fans of other clubs about to gloat at etc. I'm sure the majority of you care more about your local NFL clubs than you do about the American NFL national team?

I personally also disagree about international football being the pinnacle of association football. There are a few good teams but they're all limited on which players they can use and all the best national teams are lacking somewhere. They also only train together for a tiny part of the football calendar.

Club teams, on the other hand, have freedom of choice with players, they train and play together all year round so work better as a unit. Clubs are also the ones responsible for bringing through all the new young players that the World Cup gets to boast at some point. Not to mention our FA cup is an older competition as well.

So regardless of any success, or lack of, for the English national team, I regard club football as the pinnacle and lifeblood of the game, and care more for it. International football is an exciting novelty, but nothing more than a novelty. Club football would survive perfectly well without a World Cup or regional championship, but international football would be nothing without the clubs feeding it.
