I can't give much advice but success in golf is all about practice and doing drills
Which sucks for me cause I'm the type of guy that just wants to go out and play
ETA: helps a lot to grab a small bucket of balls and hit them at the range before a round
Get a preshot routine down and always use it
Yeah but too many new golfers don't play enough, IMO. Range time is important, but only when used productively.
Assuming you've got a good attitude and won't get turned off by your own mistakes, my favorite practice is on a golf course where I'm not concerned too much about shooting a low round (so preferably fairly cheap, with buddies interested in doing the same, and somewhere that isn't packed). I usually come away with far more progress/fixes than I do just hitting buckets.
