Go putt. It's free and it's what costs most people who are just starting out to play the most strokes on the course. The more you chip and putt the better your touch will be around the greens and the better you will score. Listen to all the other advice you get as well. Most pros know what they are talking about and should help your game tremendously.

That's great advice. I took the game up at probably 23-24yrs old and the first thing I did was take lessons from a local pro. I believe it prevented me from developing any seriously bad habits and poor muscle memory.
When I finally took to the course I was shooting low 100's....102, 109, 110. Didn't take very long to break into the 90's. If I would have used Dawgsontop34's advice I believe I would've gotten better even faster.
