I know that was WW1 but it showed what type of person he was. I'm not knocking him because it's almost necessary to distance yourself from shitty decisions and downplay them to be a politician. Just saying there were reasons he didn't have the best approval rating. People now act surprised that his approval rating wasn't at 95% or something

It was at 83% at the end of the war, and never dipped below 78% between 40 and 45.

Granted he focused all of his efforts and energy to the war effort, and rightfully so; but its written many, many times, that people believed because he was such a good leader in war, he would suck in peacetime. Maybe that would have been true, but I don't believe it.
