Be a man. If this your potential wife you do not charge her anything if you invited her. If you can't afford to not charge her then you should have gotten a real roommate.

You shouldn't charge her anything. Just put a ring on her finger. What are you waiting for?

I don't get this. This isn't the 50's where the man goes to work and the wife stays home to cook and clean. If she's working she absolutely pays her share, and she might actually be offended if he tells her not to. They aren't married yet.

Being a man =/= allowing yourself to be a doormat right from the beginning. He absolutely should charge her something, and if she has a problem with it, red flag city. If anything, she wil respect him for not being taken advantage of

The $400 as suggested by others sounds appropriate

Source: myself and several others I know have been in this exact situation

So if they get married and she is working, she shouldn't be responsible for any of the mortgage? I don't understand that. She has a job, why not put her money towards the house she lives in?

They aren't married yet and she isn't a SAHM....therefore she should def be contributing to living expenses.

Maybe have her split the groceries and utility bills, but don't have her pay rent if you would be paying the mortgage anyway.
