Dan, I'm no Rickety apologist, but I didn't take his post to mean that one federal raid had an effect on the federal budget. I took it more as Rickety having a problem with the entire federal policy as it pertains to drug laws in general, and marijuana specifically. Surely you've been the board target of such discussions, right? The ones where folks are upset over the amount of law enforcement dollars that get allocated to stopping people from selling and smoking pot, as well as the discussions on the measures and degrees of force used in raid type situations?

I understood his point but I believe he is misguided. I was not referring to this one raid but rather all federal raids. The money they generate is miniscule. I do believe that the ancillary income generated from having a DEA and paying federal salaries to those workers has an impact on many things, including the fed budget, but asset forfeiture is not something the feds do to generate income. I believe that these raids are done because most people want big brother to handle everything and the government has been happy to accommodate those demands. While these raids may generate a miniscule amount of income for the feds it has NOTHING to do with the motivation to perform them.
