increased competition in the area with their poor facilities is the bigger issue. Those past teams were talented enough to play in any conference, especially the ACC.

It's the increase in competition as well. They never properly adjusted to the increased strength of their competition. They went in expecting to dominate and fell flat.

Here are some other examples:

TCU (Mountain West to Big 12)
Utah (Mountain West to PAC 12)
Colorado (Big 12 to PAC 12)
West Virginia (Big East to Big 12)
Nebraska (Big 12 to Big Ten) initially

If the program is not PREPARED for the upgrade in competition you will see similar results.

Look for Louisville to thrive in the ACC and for Maryland and Rutgers to struggle.

Oh yeah, Donna Shalala HATES athletics and wants to get rid of the whole program. Not good when your Pres has thise opinions. She made public comments a year or so ago about wanting to lower the importance of athletics at Tha U.
