Thats still playing Can out of position when it comes down to it.
While I'm not entirely certain what Can's natural position is defined as, it seems that he is best on the left side of a midfield pairing. And if he was only suitable for one single role, I doubt Brendan would have brought him on. The common theme with these recent signings is versatility, and adaptability.

Can is a defender when it comes down to it. Who can play some defensive mid if needed when you need a stop gap. He doesn't excel at either but he is decent at both like a jack of trades in the back.
Playing him that high up and depending on him to control the left side of midfield is a liability. Not that I'm complaining

from most accounts, Can is viewed as a B2B midfielder... Possibly a DM.. He has proven that he is highly flexible, so I'm not sure what "out of position" means for him...

The best part of reading your post is realizing just how many options and versatility we will have this year.
It truly is nice to see BR have almost too many solid players rather than not enough like last year. The overall quality and depth of the middle and front thirds are impressive. We realistically have about 8 or 9 guys to plug in 6 spots, which means our stars can rest for less important matches and still have a solid squad roll out. If we could just shore up the back third in the same manner this squad would be quite the contender. I still think LFC has a solid chance this year, and our front two thirds "problem" is a great one to have.

Which he really didn't do in the Bundesliga
Like Bleed said he could be great at the base of a diamond.

He played everywhere from LB to AM for Bayer Leverkusen last year, chipping in 3 goals and 5 assists... he obviously has the ability to get forward and with BR coaching him, I'm quite sure he can get even better... His future may well be as a DM, but I do not think you'll see him as a CB, unless in a pinch due to injuries.
He said himself, his best/preferred position is as a CM, on his first LFC interview... so, it is far from a stretch to play him there...

Daily Fail is reporting Martin kelly to Crystal Palace for £1.5mm...

Would be ok losing Martin. Don't think he has a future here unless he can make the move to CB. Even then he's a bit of a project.

I agree, other than hating to lose the local guy
The writing on the wall has been obvious after his injuries, I don't see a place for him at either position in the future...

quote:I admit I didn't watch him regularly at Leverkusen, but from the preseason, to me he wonders upfield too much to take on the role of a true DM at the base of a diamond. That and he's surprised me at times with some skill and solid runs going forward. I think he would work well in a midfield with Hendo and Gerrard.

Tony Barrett is confirming the kelly to CPFC deal.. ~£2mm
He is also saying we have agreed fee on Moreno and he will probably get pulled from todays match against Madrid

No complaints with that.
Sorry to see Kelly go. Injuries ruined tthe early part of his career where he was starting to develop nicely. Still think he could turn into a decent player at Palace

Doesnt look like Moreno is in the lineup or the bench today!
Posted on 8/12/14 at 12:52 pm to TheZaba
Barrett saying Moreno's fee is £12m. I imagine there must be some decent add-ons considering the fight of trying to agree a fee, but I'd say that's not a bad deal at all

So....
Manquillo/Moreno/Flanagan/Enrique/Johnson
Lovren/Skrtl/Sakkho/Agger/Coates/Toure/Illori
Gerrard/Henderson/Allen/Can/Lucas
Lallana/Sterling/Coutinho/Markovic/Ibe/Suso
Sturridge/Lambert/Borini

Are we assuming that Ibe is staying with the first team?
Posted on 8/12/14 at 1:48 pm to pvilleguru
I'd keep Ibe with the first team.

As things stand, I'd be content with just one more addition... striker
I have a feeling a few of those may be out for good or on loan, so depending on that it may change..
I can see both sides of the coin for Ibe... Cant say I'm leaning one way or the other..

It would be nice to add a GK for competition and personally I'd like to see another tough-tackling defensive mid added if Lucas leaves but overall I'm very happy.
