Why is the mail so slow?

I ordered something online 2 weeks ago. It was shipped on the 3rd, and still hasn't arrived. I get there was a holiday in there. But, why does it take so long for things to arrive after they are shipped?

you sure that's mail and not ground freight?

You have to allow three days, in general. It's hit or miss as to whether Saturday is included (I'm guessing it is not in this case).
You should have it by tomorrow.

Maybe you should pick the cheapest way of shipping if you want it there quickly

shipped using what company, how, and where was it shipped from?

That was only two business days ago
And packages take a little longer than letters

Nope. Mail. Just checked the email to be sure.

that's pretty slow, third class maybe? I mail a lot of stuff from TX to FL, and it's typically there in two days

Not knowing anything other than what you've presented in the OP, it's only been one business day since the item was shipped.

Does this mean that it actually left the company on the 3rd, or that they packaged it to ship? If the latter, it may not have physically left the plant until yesterday.
It may take as long as a week depending on from where it was shipped and your shipping address.

the mail never stops moving, only delivery days

You could always go get it yourself. How much quicker would that be?

Correct, but that doesn't mean USPS is running full transfer routes on holidays, etc.
I know UPS and FedEx adjust their schedules to account for the lack of shipments/pickups on the holiday. For instance, it may have still left the shipper's location, but then dropped at a DC and normally transferred the same night. But since there is no immediate need to move freight that evening, it may have sat there for a night, which is now moving on Saturday or Sunday to its next DC.
