NYC, in my opinion, is the best city in the country to visit, and if you can handle the pace and make decent money, it's an amazing place to live.
Seattle/Denver are incredible as well on both fronts. There is no prettier city in the country than Seattle in the summer. I understand the rain argument, but the place is incredible regardless of the frequently gray skies.
