I've probably seen hundreds of episodes on USA but I have never routinely watched it.

I noticed it's on Netflix. It's one of my favorite shows to watch, so I'm thinking of starting from the very beginning and just skipping the episodes that I've already seen until I get to the end.

At what point does the show go from just centering around 1 episode to actually having a story arc about the characters? I know there are a few episodes scattered about Elliot's daughter, and Elliot's family problems.

I've never watched episodes consistently enough to get story arcs. I thought it was just a case at a time show.

Every storyline follows the Oberyn Martell formula

Either "YOU RAPED HER"

Or "YOU MURDERED HER"

Or "YOU MURDERED HER CHILDREN"

The famous guest star is always the killer.

Either that or it's the first person they interview.

Mariska Hargitay is my boo

As for your question, story arc isn't really worth going in order. It's pretty scattered around.

It's meant to be able to watch it without knowing anything about the characters ahead of time. It can add to the show though I guess.

I think it slowly changes in the seasons. Elliot leaving for instance..

I actually saw the episode where Benson was kidnapped on the season finale and then searched on the internet to watch the season premier that concluded the episode

It gets into the personal lives of the police detectives (more than the original Law & Order did anyway). After a while you get to understand Olivia's past and why she does what she does, and you come to accept Stabler being a lunatic.

I think every season had atleast "omg I had to shoot my gun so now I need therapy for 5 episodes" storyline to it as a background to the plot of the week

The actor from lost always did it.

Also I love Ice T's awkward comments, and his partners stupid arse jokes. Good show.

I had this same opinion until Desmond broke the trend..

..Then reappeared and reestablished the trend

Ice T is awesome, especially when they focus on him for an episode.

SPOILERS

One of the funniest things ever was this season, when the "rape comedian" called Fin "Jay Z" and asked him to hold his bag while he was being arrested.
