Why couldn't you get a couple 6"+/- pieces that are slightly bigger than the one you plan to use and cut them longways slightly past half, then screw those pieces into the side/top of the 
and then snap your pole into that?

I use the factory Jackson rod stager tie down but it could be rigged on other boats. It is a tie down made from bungee between a tube clamp and a J-hook.
Here's a pic of the rod stagers I found online. This one has a fly rod but I put my 8' stake out pole in the same location:
