I recommend the Timothy Zahn trilogy. It occurs after Return of the Jedi.
There is also Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry which is between Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ.
I haven't read the X-wing series, but I've heard nothing but good things.

Thanks Scruffy!!
I was trying to remember that author's name. I'd read another Sci-Fi book by him years ago and liked it. Knew he did some Star Wars stuff but was drawing a blank.

not into the books but the Legacy series of comics are both really good. The first series is 50 comics and the main character is Luke's great grandson? Cade.

Seconded. The Timothy Zahn trilogy is also called the Thrawn Trilogy and is fantastic. I, Jedi is also great. The New Jedi Order series is second best behind The Thrawn Trilogy. It takes place about 20 years after Return of the Jedi. Han and Leia's three children play pivotal roles in it.
Full disclosure, I was never a big Han Solo fan though - I just care about the Jedi and the Force.
