Don't forget the Chinese though. They REALLY hate them as well.
True - though generally its only when they are on such a blood thirsty rampage that the tiny peninsula of Korea isn't big enough to satisfy them.

Chinatown? SERIOUSLY? WTF?!?!
chinatown isn't "segregated", as whites don't force asians into that area. that is an area asians choose to live on their own these days
maybe 150 years ago it was forced, but it's not anymore. the asians live there by choice

During the great westward expansion asians were generally treated like shite.
yes they were
and they're doing just fine now, so what happened 150 years ago doesn't really matter today

Its segregation regardless of the cause.

That sums up your world view very nicely.

Allow grandfathering of property owners against increasing property taxes (freeze their rate, or increase at lower rate).
Louisiana freezes the assessment when the homeowner turns 65 if he earns below a certain amount (currently $65K). In practice, no income verification is ever done. The special assessment can be passed on to a surviving spouse.

Why is this a bad thing?

so one group choosing to live amongst itself is now "segregation" ?

Its segregation regardless of the cause.
A group of people choosing to live in a particular area different from others is not segregation.
Now, I don't know if that is the case with Chinatown... but if it is, then it's not segregation.

and it's true, no matter how much you try to argue with the truth
how often do you look back at your family's history from 150 years ago and think about how that affects you today?
i don't think i ever have
how often do you?

It has always been. Segregation just means the groups are separate.
The list of the top 25 segregated cities I posted earlier - for instance - does not rank based on cause - but on actual segregation as revealed by population data.

Yes it is. Its voluntary segregation.

quote:Definitely. There are a multitude of reasons why blacks live in disproportionately high black population areas compared to other races.
Compared to blacks?
In the end though, it is more apt to state that these areas are economically segregated, rather than racially. The fact that there is a disproportionate percentage of blacks that are poor is an external factor when discussing current segregation causes/characteristics, IMO.
You may disagree with that though.

That's really only 100% true if you entirely discount the factor racism plays in inhibiting people's ability to rise in economic class.

So if people choose to live in a community of people who share their ethnicity, it's the same as if people are forced to live in a community of people who share their ethnicity?
Is that what you're saying?
Is that what you're saying?

In my personal opinion, the racial factor associated w/ economic advancement is a minority factor, or at least it has become one over time.
Was the racial element initially a majority factor? Definitely.
Did the racial aspect give rise to the many of the current majority factors? Sure.
At this point in time though, the new metastatic aspects of the initial cancer (racial discrimination) have become more deadly, if you catch my drift. The racial discrimination element has largely been subdued by our society. The problem is addressing the issues that arose due to years of discrimination. I have no answers or solutions to that.
Bear in mind, I'm not saying that people aren't racist anymore. That is wholly untrue.

quote:True. By definition it is. But it's not the same as blacks being priced out of an area or laws set up to force segregation. Which was really the point of the discussion.
Yes it is. Its voluntary segregation.
