Sounds suspicious. That's at least twenty cartons. Why didn't that raise her eyebrows a little? Is that a standard sale for this store? Does she have any kind of relationship with the purchaser?

I don't have all the facts about the story. But they do make large sales of cigarettes on occasion from what I've heard. She told me that she conducted the transaction IAW everything they've trained her to do regarding credit card sales.

I basically told her that if she was truly liable for the amount the store owners should have no problem putting everything in writing - which I'm guessing they won't do.
