I wouldn't want to trade him at this point anyway. We're going to need him if we want to compete this year. We actually have a healthy Colston, and someone besides Stills to be a threat as a receiver. If we don't have Jimmy, it'll be that much easier for people to defend us.
This. Have you people forgotten how beast mode this dude is for us?

And some of you forget before jimmy graham, we were still a potent offense because of the guy under the headset calling these mismatches with a QB that can execute it.
We may not have a perfect mismatch for safeties and linebackers, but Colston in his 'prime' was doing that before Jimmy came along.
This isn't like taking Calvin Johnson away from Stafford and leaving nobody else on the field to throw to. Stills is a solid #2 and could potentially leapfrog to become a #1 WR in our offense. Colston is still solid for 900-1000 yards easily if reports saying "he's as healthy as he's been the last 2 years". Cooks if all direction points correctly could produce somewhere around 800 receiving yards as well.

The organization that drafted him in the 3rd round on his unique tight end skillset despite much college success.. and is willing to make him the highest paid tight end of all-time.. and he might be mad?
Surely he is not mad at this organization that took a chance on him fairly early and then is more than willing to pay him accordingly. Gronk had a better statistical season before his contract and he never once complained about being the highest paid tight end.. (Now you can't predict injuries ahead. He did bounce back nicely though once he played again) These two guys when healthy as the best at what they do.

Who gives a shite what we did before he came around, or before colston, or before stills, or anyone. I'm talking about keeping a dynamic player that makes our system that much better. Hell, since it's just Payton that makes this offense what it is, just cut everyone and sign up a bunch of FA nobody's. The guy under the headset will make all well.

I'm with you. We can't get rid of a guy that only a handful of teams can match up with.
Let's not forget the guy was dealing with an foot injury for half the season and still put up monster numbers. So he got shut down by the Seattle defense. Well, so did one of the most prolific offenses ever in the Super Bowl.

It was a formula that Talib showed that really only Seattle could duplicate: beat Jimmy up. Foot injury, sure, but he couldn't handle someone getting physical with him.

Again, who gives a frick. His stats don't lie. So he had a bad game or two. Last time I checked, we play 16 regular season games. And he was a focal point of the offense and still balled out 90% of the time. Wait and see what he does now that more youth and speed are injected into this offense.

I hope Graham takes the team's offer and let's move on. If he wants to hold out for the $12.3M, that's going to be tough to handle.
Only a fool would want to get rid of him. If you don't have a choice, that's a whole other matter.
ETA: Just read a Forbes article and it said that Payton testified in the arbitration case. Allegedly, Payton broke down his schemes that favored LB coverage on Graham and that testimony was a vital part of the outcome.

There was also some language in the CBA or somewhere where it said that someone is considered to be playing TE if they're in arms reach from the end tackle. Players were making a big deal about 4 yards like it was made up, but that's what Burbank was going off of.

Okay, and out of the 16 games he will dominate, no one is denying that.
When it comes down to it, you're against the Seahawks in the NFC championship. Would you rather him @12mil cost or say Brandon Marshall @12mil.
We all see the stats, but they're against linebackers and safeties. NE demolished him with a physical CB in Talib and seattle showed they didn't even need to use sherman when they put an athletic coverage LB on him (KJ Wright) and their safety tandem to toy with him.
Someone had it in the other thread, his #s against CBs are VASTLY different from the #s against LBs/Safeties. He's good, but its a damn chess piece, just like how Sproles was in his first year.
Its like you forget this is a copycat league for defenses as well.
This offense doesn't NEED him to succeed, but he surely does a hell of a job, no one denies that. But at the end of the day, if you're giving me Jimmy Graham @12mil or a potential blueprint #1 WR like Watkins, I'll take Watkins. I've seen jimmy alligator arm enough balls to know at a certain point he shys away from getting hit, especially after the pretzel from SF. You've never seen that with Colston.

This is funny.

Browns tight end Jordan Cameron -- a candidate for the franchise tag next spring -- quickly[ changed his Twitter bio from "tight end" to "pass catcher" after the Graham ruling, but he won't be treated any differently by an arbitrator if it comes down to that.

I hope this is not available to all the teams.

Everyone see's your plays its when you use them that's the tricky part.

He proves he's not a grown-up the same day he's proven to not be a WR
If he did make that tweet, I am very disappointed in him- the Saints were the team that took a chance on him in the first place, and while he has been impressive, exactly where would he be without Brees?

Can't we tag him for another year after the 14-15 season

quote:exactly dude, Jimmy is a replaceable peice..I'd love for him to stay and produce, but he isn't some unstoppable force..ol jimmy disappeared in a couple of really big games..

I'd love to trade this guy while the league sees him as highly valued.
Posted on 7/6/14 at 10:13 pm to wpsnickers
We can tag him next year for around $8.5 million
