Sleeping problem/OT Docs

Last night I went to bed dehydrated so maybe this was a factor. I woke up in the middle of my sleep gasping for air, literally launched off my bed and ran into the living room and was breathing heavily. Literally thought I was dying. Fight or flight took over. Took about a minute to return to normal. I also saw my house in just about every color imaginable like I was tripping. First time this happened was after Mardi Gras, lack of sleep, too much booze, and stress. Last night the only stress I had was maybe not enough sleep and i did legs a few hours before in the gym.
Maybe this is related to anxiety?

Drink more water.
Relax and maybe find a doobie.
ETA: sounds like a panic attack

Definitely. May have been brought on by sleep apnea. I'm sure that your doc would recommend a sleep study.

Sleep apnea
This. You stopped breathing and your body woke you up so that you could get some air. The colors were probably caused by your brain losing a bit of oxygen.

that is sleep apnea...get yourself a sleep study done and I'll bet you will be shocked at how many times you are waking up during the night trying to breathe....they will give you a portable air compressor and mask to wear and you will be like a new man...
in the meantime, try a few different positions to sleep in and take notice of which position keeps your airway open the best...also, try to lose some weight, if that is an issue...
the good news is, you are gonna feel a hell of a lot better once you get this straight...

Appreciate the insight. Is there any real danger with sleep apnea?
Not at all.

Nothing too bad, just death

yep...people occasionally die from it...
not common enough to get all alarmed and stressed over, but you shouldn't ignore it either...
there also seems to be some connection with high blood pressure, but I am not sure why that is...
