I think that just about every American who isn't the child of foreigners or on an elite travel team gets into soccer the same way. They watch the US games at the World Cup. If they like it, they watch additional games of other teams (which are often played at even better quality).

Then, I'd say about a quarter of the fans start watching other USMNT matches and either MLS or EPL. The rest stick to World Cup or they become Bill SImmons fans, who watch major world games and the summer tournaments like the Euro and the World Cup when other sports are finished with their season.

You missed one category. Or turns it on for their children who play soccer because they don't know shite about it. Then you become a fan while you are trying to figure it out for your children.
