I can elaborate on what I do for cycling. I do build phases that lead into recovery phases. 3-4 week builds entail 12-15hr weeks of cycling. Hard interval training during the week. Usually 2hr workouts. The weekend usually includes 6-10hrs of either exhaustive training rides or focused workouts. That leads up to a recovery phase; which I maybe touch the bike for four hours that week. Break it down to build it up. Gotta allow the body to recover though.
