Well he's not. Messi is head and shoulders a better player. Perhaps there are things Ronaldo does slightly better, but Messi is the best scorer on the planet by a healthy margin. Scoring wins games.

I think Germany beats the United States 3-1, but Portugal bails the US out by either winning or forcing a draw against Ghana.

I just don't see Germany not getting opportunities against our defense.

Ghana's without a key player on Thursday and I think Portugal comes out strong and end with a respectable finish.

Ghana is on their way to a 2 - 0 win over Portugal while Germany leads the USA 1 - 0 in the dying seconds. When all seems lost, Graham Zusi swoops in with the header to save the USA like he saved Mexico.

At least, that's how it would happen if I had my way.

You do realize Ronaldo just had a better season than Messi where he scored more goals, right?

No matter the sport, when you have things like that happen to you, it usually finds a way to come back to bite you in the arse. However, this team has played extremely well, and to not advance now would be an utter disappointment. Lots of other factors in play here though, Portugal mindset, travel, days between games, yada yada. I'm undecided on what I think will happen. Hopefully this group can rebound.

Question: How did Ghana play Germany to a draw (i.e. athleticism, etc.) and does the US style of play suggest a draw or win vs Germany is likely?

They are the best team in Africa

Great size and pace with euro type technical ability.

Hate when people say this. Ronaldo isn't worthy to wash Messi's jock strap.

Messi is the GOAT but CR7 is up there

That was a golden opportunity the US blew. Rarely (I think) does a team rebound from something like that. Reminds me of the Spurs blowing Game 6 last year.

Germany wins 2-0
Ghana wins 3-1

I hope I'm dead wrong.

i think the Germans get tired of hearing about making a deal to draw the game, so both get through,
And they bring out the whooping stick.

But, Portugal shows up and either wins or ties their game.
