I would feel bad for her, honestly. It's a shitty situation, because you have a damaged vehicle and an expensive repair, but consider your daughter's frame of mind. Without being told, it probably didn't even occur to her that it was going to go backwards, so she was certainly not experienced/mentally equipped to react to it.

I know you might be more reluctant to let her drive it at all, and she'll probably be averse to it because of the guilt, but it might help both of you get past this if you actually take her to a secluded stretch of road/path and start teaching her some basic safety and how to operate it (rather than telling her how) in a more controlled environment.
