I know nothing on Trademarks but I can't imagine they have the authority to do this. 'Skins' legal team surely can defeat this.

The 'Skins" team already fought it and lost. Who do you think was making their case to the trademark court? They'll appeal it for sure, but only as a stalling tactic to give them time to come up with and implement a new name.

Well, the 1st amendment of the constitution gives the company the protection to use whatever name they see fit. The patent office, as an extension of the fed gov cannot limit the 1a. This will go to court.

Don't recall the specifics, but I read a legal article a few mths ago in anticipation of this ruling, & it said that, in the big picture, this ruling won't have any real effect on the team's naming rights. As for taking time to come up with a new name, the owner has said he will NEVER change the name, his emphasis.

Wasn't this already taken to court 20+ years ago and the Redskins won?
