The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model will reportedly feature a QHD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, which is much higher than the previously rumored resolution of 1704×960 pixels.
That's a pretty huge jump. Wiling to bet as we get closer all kinda of rumors will be popping up.

whats the point of more pixels?
i thought the retina display was meant to be as good as the human eye can see or something like that

Pretty ridiculous. Once you hit a certain number of PPI it just doesn't matter.
Sadly, numbers and specs sell phones to people that don't know an better

Chicken, you might want to just go ahead and delete the first 10 responses off the bat.
They're coming.
Anyway...
There's always going to be something bigger and better. You can say the same thing about HD until 4k came along. We always think we found the best until 5 years later when a completely new technology is out.
Don't know any better? Ok troll. Because improving the number of pixels by 150% doesn't matter at all. See above in the TV department. I'm sure you'll be fine with your tube TV from 1995.

i don't think he's trolling dude
put an iphone 5 very close to your face and see if you can notice pixelization
i just did and I can't
with a large HDTV, you can definitely see pixels if you're close to it, no one is knocking that
however, i don't think our eyes have changed, so the retina display pretty much maxed out the PPI that we needed
now of course if the new screen is larger like you say, it needs more pixels

The snide remark just wasn't necessary
And I mean yeah I agree. It's not like I can sit here and point out pixels on the screen...but I don't consider it a bad thing for them to want to pack more in there. Especially since they are in fact rolling out 4.7 and 5.5 in screens by the end of the year.

WIll be interesting to see the battery life with that increase in pixels. The LG G3 has terrible battery life in comparison to other high-end phones. And, LG even has to use a screen dimming technology when the phone gets too hot. It'll be interesting to see if Apple has tackled these issues, and how.

I'm sure they'll tell us how awesome it is, but honestly just larger screen size with retina resolution is all that was needed. I think going with Duracell Powermat technology is going to be a much bigger deal (my own personal rumor based on the Starbucks announcement and the long rumored wireless charging for the iPhone 6).

With free wireless charging everywhere you can get free wifi.

Most likely the larger pixel density will before the rumored 5.5 inch iphone. A good thing about higher resolutions on phones is that it makes text easier to read for longer periods of time.

I wasn't trolling. Just because I think something they are doing is silly and unnecessary doesn't mean I am trolling.
It's not inherently bad. Once you hit a certain PPI, it is just pointless. The extreme majority of the population can't tell the difference other than the spec sheet saying that more pixels exist.

and it uses more battery life.

Who cares about resolution on a phone?

Well that's a pretty dumb statement.

The point may have been valid, but once again it's impossible to have a normal discussion on the topic without douche comments. Too much to ask to have civil conversation around here.

So making a blunt, true statement is a douche move now ?
What I said was true and was not directed at anyone.

i didnt take his comment:
to be specifically a shot at apple people.....I took it as a general smartphone arms race comment
all of the manufacturers like to bring up pixels and screen quality and the average user is impressed, even if its not even warranted
you are being too defensive, and thats coming from a fellow apple fan

Same thing is happening with Cameras. People only look at MegaPixels.
I admit, that I troll the Apple threads at times, but this was not one of those times
