eh, i think spurs would win in 6.

that detroit team was very good, were tough to break down, but the way this spurs team is moving the ball would give them trouble.

also, spurs have too much on the bench. mcdyess would make it tougher for diaw but detroit would be relying on guys like corliss williamson, mike james, darwin ham, lindsey hunter, elden campbell whereas spurs have manu as the 6th man playing starter's minutes, mills, splitter/diaw, belinelli and bonner to stretch the D.

they did have a ton of bigs to throw at duncan, but spurs with the way they're shooting and running their stuff in the halfcourt + their bench is the difference IMO.

No team that the Spurs have played this year was as good defensively as that Pistons team was, so there is no way to compare. They would give them trouble. While the Spurs are absolutely running through the Heat, they have struggled at times this postseason.

That Pistons team barely used any of their bench. They rolled with the starting 5 almost exclusively and it worked.

Nobody has a Ben Wallace. Lets think about how they dominated an all-star type Lakers team in 2004. They were way better than this Heat team. That is not even close. Like I said it would be a great series.

McDyess wasn't on that team, you left out Okur. their bench was mostly Corliss, Okur, Hunter and they threw Mike James in the Finals prob more than they had to that point.

I think Spurs in 6 too though, their offense is a machine, their D is pretty good, and the Pistons could struggle when it came to scoring.

superteams (shaq kobe malone payton horry)

Lol that Lakers team was no superteam. Kobe was in his prime, but Shaq was on his way out of his, Malone was 40, Payton was 35, and Horry wasn't even on that team. That team had bad chemistry and it went up against probably the best defensive team of the new millennium that had great chemistry.

And this Spurs team would beat that Pistons team. That Pistons team is/was probably better than this Heat team though.

Yep, although I'd take Pop over Brown, but both teams were really damn good

I loved those Pistons teams, but I just can't see them scoring enough to hang with this Spurs team.

I think they could score plenty. Rip ,And company could have held their own .imo. Back to that great d that the Pistons had. Like I said. Ben Wallace shut people down.

Am I the only one that remembers the Spurs got pushed to 7 games by an 8-seed (and, no, Dallas wasn't one of the best 8-seeds of all time), got blown out twice by an OKC team with a hobbled Ibaka, didn't sweep a single series, and has multiple home loses in the playoffs?

Look, I'd find it hard to bet against this Spurs team in a 7-game series with home court, but hold up on the "would easily beat" or "sweep" one of the most well-coached, balanced, and best defensive teams in the last decade.

49 win division rival featuring a future HOF.

You do realize just how good the Western Conference is this year right? Plus they have won 11 games by 15+ points, which is a NBA record.

I think a lot of it would come down to who could dictate the pace of the game.

How the frick is this even a discussion? The Spurs wouldn't shoot over 50% like they are now.

the Piston would manhandle the Spurs on the boards and we already know Prince and Lindsey Hunter can shut down Parker.

Is this real life?

Shaq still averaged like 21 ppg and 11 rpg that year.

Still amazed how people are saying the Spurs win this easily.

I agree.

As I said earlier in that thread, that Pistons team had the best defense I have ever seen.

They had such a strong frontcourt press with Lindsey Hunter and Mike James, that teams had trouble getting the ball past halfcourt.

One more fun fact - 2003-2004 Pistons had FIVE straight games holding opponents under 70 points. That is insane. The 6th game, Pistons blew out the Nets, and Aaron Williams made a layup in garbage time, that gave them 71 points. He was pumping his fist like he just won the championship. Sheed was laughing at him.
