Edward's fault?
He and every Governor after him who hasn't at least tried to fix the things, which would be Roemer, Foster, Blanco and Jindal.
I believe none really wanted to fix the problem because it always gave them an easy excuse.

Jindal is an a-hole, an idiot and a selfish lying political whore.
the author kind of is as well.

You can blame our moronic constitution for that.
Wrong. That is a scapegoat.
There's nothing in the constitution that prevents cutting budgets during the (gasp!) budget process.
What the constitution prevents is a governor from unilaterally ignoring the legislative budget process and cutting and adding whatever he wants after session is over. (example: mid-year budget cuts)
All the governor has to do is push for those budget cuts to happen while session is in but he has blocked efforts to cut things like consulting contracts which would have saved the state over $200m.
During the annual mid-year budget shortfall all he has to do is call the legislature back into session and they can cut things other than higher education and healthcare.
The more you know..

I agree with all of that.
And Asgard is correct about there actually being a way in the budget process to make necessary cuts...but the majority of the politicians in Baton Rouge don't have the will.

Just re-read your post and have to correct myself. I don't agree with all of your statement.
Gov. Jindal is not an idiot. Far from it. Might be the most educated Governor we've ever had.
But he is an a-hole and a selfish lying political whore.

John Alario. That is all you need to know about Jindal and his integrity/ethics.
Bobby Jindal and the Louisiana Republican Party leadership ended up whoring themselves out to John Alario, Edwin Edwards's former right hand man in the Legislature.

I realize your entire political philosophy and knowledge can be put on a bumper sticker and you're simply regurgitating Fox talking points so it's not your fault. But what you said is wrong. Truth is states will never pay for more than 10% of Medicaid expansion. LINK / so while the savior's state of Kentucky sees a great response from Obamacare and an expansion of Medicaid, both of which Louisiana taxpayers will help fund, Louisiana gets nothing.

quote:I admit I was wrong when I said it increases each year. (I think it starts off less than 10% though, and then increases to that over a span), but 10% is still a huge chunk of the budget, especially in a very unhealthy/obese state like Louisiana.
Truth is states will never pay for more than 10% of Medicaid expansion.
Thanks for correcting me, though.
I just do not understand why people celebrate when we put more people on a government program. It's as if these true believers believe there is no free market solution.
Also, I'd be interested to see polls about how Louisianan residents view medicaid expansion. Once Virginians were told about the immense long term costs, support went down. Jindal is not only governor for the poor, the rich, film companies, he is governor of all LA residents. If the majority do not want more medicaid, then he is doing his job. It is not his job to serve a distinct group (the rich or the poor or anyone else), at the expense of all other groups.

Amazing. The federal government could never decide to saddle states with more of this burden?

Wouldn't this mean fewer states expanding medicare equals less burden on each state's tax base? Meaning it's still good for every state's tax base for every state not to expand?

I did not know until following a link in the letter in the OP that the younger Jindal works for Gibson Dunn.
Gibson Dunn is defending BP in several lawsuits arising from the Deepwater Horizon tragedy.
And they make the following boast on Law360
There is another thread on this but I wanted to thank the OP for shining this unintentional light on things.

Law360, New York (February 10, 2012, 7:56 PM ET) -- With its bicoastal practice representing major companies in the gaming, social media, movie, television and music industries, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP jumped to the top of Law360's list of the largest media and entertainment practice groups in the world.
The 76-attorney group at Gibson Dunn, which accounts for just over 7 percent of the 1,050-lawyer firm, was followed by Covington & Burling LLP, which has 66 media and entertainment lawyers, and Latham & Watkins LLP, with a team of 63, according to the Law360 Media..

and once again, you prove you can't debate a poster without including personal attacks. It's starting to become a bore, honestly.

Your original post was a personal attack complete with a silly emoticon. Why do you insist on holding other people and politicians to a different stand than you do yourself and those of whom you support?
You're like a child. You throw mud then cry when it's thrown back at you.

1. There have been many studies that show the costs of the uninsured ways heavier on you through higher medical costs and insurance than does Medicare. Hospitals don't just take the loss when treating the uninsured. They pass it on to you. Like a store does with shoplifters.
2. You're not only paying for the uninsured in your state through higher premiums and medical costs but you're paying for Medicaid Expansion in these states:

do the gas bags that complain about this even know the actual words of the law?

I admit I was wrong when I said it increases each year (although it does for the first few years), but the person who wrote the article blatantly left out that key fact. It is not "truthful" to claim that medicaid expansion costs the state nothing.
And nice mental gymnastics. I did not attack you through a post on this site.
